Michael is principal lawyer at creative|legal, a specialist legal practice offering legal services and support to creators and innovators across creative industries. He has over 12 years experience in intellectual property and commercial law, including in-house roles at SONY BMG and The Mushroom Group and in private practice with specialist Perth law firm Garton-Smith\Owen (and its later incarnations at Owen Legal+Corporate and Tottle Christensen), Blake Dawson Waldron and Herbert Geer. Michael has also served on the boards of a variety of not-for-profit organisations.
Michael's expertise lies in his ability to combine sharp commercial legal analysis and solutions with a sound understanding of entrepreneurial business and creative endeavour, particularly in new opportunity evaluation, commercialisation, corporate governance and new venture strategy. His passion lies in assisting creative ideas to translate into reality, success and broader change.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science (Geology) from the University of Western Australia, and will soon be awarded a Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEI) from the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship at Swinburne University in Melbourne. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Service Management from RMIT University.
Michael's broad experience and studies give him a unique edge in providing legal services to the creative and technology industries, utilising legal, entrepreneurial and scientific methodologies, know-how and approach. He also possesses a well developed awareness and practice of contemporary organisational governance and ethics.
